No mail for Gaza

OTTAWA – Canadians won’t be able to send mail to the Gaza Strip any time soon, Canada Post said Tuesday.
Israel Post told the Canadian agency on July 20 that it wasn’t delivering mail to the Palestinian territory. Canada Post held onto the mail in the hope delivery would resume.
It now looks like there won’t be any immediate relief, so Canada Post is returning all mail to senders and won’t be accepting any more until Israel Post service resumes.
Spokesman John Caines says when there’s a war or conflict in a foreign destination, postal administrations are notified through the International Postal Union.
A statement released by Canada Post says the agency hasn’t been able to find alternate routes into Gaza.
“Our efforts to get mail through to the Gaza Strip will continue, and we will keep customers updated on developments through our website,” the statement said.
“Once mail service to the Gaza Strip resumes, customers will be able to re-mail their items at no additional charge.”
