Harper vows to get tough
Worried about terrorists disguised as asylum-seekers
By IAN ROBERTSON, TORONTO SUN
MISSISSAUGA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper vowed tougher laws Tuesday against terrorists slipping into Canada disguised as innocent asylum-seekers.
“We are a land of refugees, but Canadians are pretty concerned when a whole boat comes, not through normal channels,” he said at one of two Toronto area stops.
Referring to 490 Sri Lankans being probed for Tamil Tiger links, Harper said, “there are some serious concerns.
“It’s a matter of sovereignty and security,” he said. “We won’t hesitate to change laws so we can have more power in the future, if necessary, because this can’t continue like this.”
